A little story behind the scenes
San Vito, an Italian migrant town located about 65 km northeast of Golfito in Puntarenas, sits at an altitude of 1,600 meters and is surrounded by mountains. This region is renowned for its rich coffee culture, benefiting from a unique microclimate that supports high-quality Arabica coffee. Notably, the Venecia varietal, which matures 25 to 40 days longer than others, produces larger seeds with a stronger aroma and higher density. Green bean buyers are often willing to pay 50% more than the market price for Venecia due to its exceptional qualities.
Coffee production is vital to San Vito's economy, providing employment and fostering community development through cooperatives that promote fair trade practices. Many farms emphasize sustainable methods, such as shade-grown coffee, which help preserve local biodiversity. Coffee is also deeply embedded in the culture, with local festivals celebrating the harvest and traditions that highlight its significance in daily life.
